HOW DID YOU GET STARTED ?

I started lifting weights in college but competing didn’t even cross my mind until much later. Two or three years after I graduated college, I started working out with a friend from church. She used to be a fitness competitor and she would always encourage me to compete! She said that she knew that if I just tried prepping and competing in a show, I would LOVE it and be addicted. It’s hilarious that she knew me so well! Although I like the idea of competing, I didn’t jump into it right then. I felt like I wasn’t ready for the commitment or diligence that prep required.

That all changed in December 2009 when I turned 28. It was like a switch went off and I was ready to go. My husband helped me find a coach and I began training in January 2010. My first show was Muscle Contest in Los Angeles and I took 5th place in my class. I have been hooked since then!

WHERE DO YOU TRAIN ?

I teach group exercise classes at LA Fitness so I usually train at the LA Fitness closest to my home. Gold’s in Venice is pretty close to me also…I like to go up there every once in a while just because the atmosphere is so inspiring!

WHAT IS YOUR CAREER AND HOBBIES ?

Besides training myself, teaching aerobics and training private clients, I teach Physical Education at a middle school! I have been teaching for 3 years and absolutely LOVE the age group that I work with. My P.E. teachers were always older, overweight and grumpy so I am doing everything I can to break that “PE teacher” stereotype… LOL…My goal is to be an example of health and joy to the kids that I am blessed to work with.

My hobbies (besides working out) are experimenting in the kitchen and hanging out with my husband or my friends. I love to cook and I am constantly trying to perfect healthy versions of my favorite foods. If I am not cooking or watching the Food Network, I am probably spending time with my husband, either playing some kind of card game or just talking and laughing about the day.
